Unraveling the Origins of the Quran

The Quran is the holy book of Islam that was revealed to the prophet Muhammad (peace and blessing be upon him).

The holy Quran is of great importance to all Muslims around the world, as it guides them to the right path in all aspects of life.

Allah says in the Holy Quran:

“Follow what has been sent down to you from your Lord, and do not take others as guardians besides Him. How seldom are you mindful!” [Quran 7:3]

What are the Origins of the Quran and what language was it revealed in, let’s find out.

What was the original language of the Quran?

The beginning of Islam can be traced back to 610 A.D. when the prophet Muhammad (peace and blessing be upon him) got his first revelation, as he saw the angel Jibril. the holy Quran was revealed to the prophet in Arabic; therefore, the original language of the Quran is Arabic.

What is the origin of the Quran?

The holy Quran is the holy book of the Islam religion, it was revealed to the Prophet (peace and blessing be upon him). The Quran carries Allah’s guidance in all aspects of life. It includes laws and commandments, and how should a Muslim behavior be. It shows right from wrong and the stories of the prophets. It also tells the stories of the people who didn’t believe in Allah and what happened to them.

The Holy Quran consists of 114 surahs and 30 juz (chapter). Each surah has a different length and message. The shortest Surah of the Quran is Surah Al-Kawthar which has only 3 verses and 10 words. While, the longest surah of the Quran is Surah Al-Baqarah, the second surah of the Quran.

The text of the Holy Quran was revealed by Allah to the prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and remained unchanged over the years, as Allah says in the Holy Quran:

“Surely it is We Who have revealed the Exposition, and surely it is We Who are its guardians” (15:10)

“It is certainly We Who have revealed the Reminder, and it is certainly We Who will preserve it.” [Quran 15:9]

“Ask them: ‘Whose testimony is the greatest?’ Say: ‘Allah is the witness between me and you;11 and this Qur’an was revealed to me that I should warn you thereby and also whomsoever it may reach.’ Do you indeed testify that there are other gods with Allah?12 Say: ‘I shall never testify such a thing.’ 13 Say: ‘He is the One God and I am altogether averse to all that you associate with Him in His divinity.’” [Quran, 6:19]

“The Word of your Lord has been perfected in truth and justice. None can change His Words. And He is the All-Hearing, All-Knowing.” [Quran 6:115]

The holy Quran is the word of Allah that remained unchanged over the year. It was revealed to the prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) through the Angel Gibrael. Muslims learn from the teachings of the holy Quran and the stories of the previous prophets such as Noah, Abraham, David, Moses, and Jesus (peace be upon them all).

Muslims believe in all the prophets and believe that they all carried the same message which is there is no god but Allah, he is the one and only God who created us all, and we all should stay away from committing sins and what is wrong, and focus only on doing what is good and pleasing Allah.

All the prophets instructed their people to do what is right in order to go to paradise, and the ones who disobey Allah will be punished and go to hell on the day of judgment.

The origins of the Quran go back to when the Quran was revealed to the prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) while he was at Mount Hira. What makes Quran unique is that it remained unchanged over the years. It exists in its precise form because Allah is protecting it as he said in the holy Quran:

“Surely it is We Who have revealed the Exposition, and surely it is We Who are its guardians” (15:10)

The Holy Quran teaches us that all people are equal regardless of gender, race, color, and nationality. It teaches us how to be kind and nice to each other and guides us to all aspects of life including marriage, gender, economics, and more.

Allah says in the holy Quran: “You (O Muhammad) were not a reader of any Scripture before it, nor did you write (such a Scripture) with your right hand, for then those who follow falsehood might (have a right) to doubt it.” [Quran, 29.48]

“And if you are in doubt about what We have revealed to Our servant, then produce a surah like it and call your helpers other than Allah, if what you say is true.” [Quran, 2:23]

“Will they not then ponder on the Quran? If it had been from other than God, they would have found therein much contradiction and incongruity.” [Quran, 4.82]

The holy Quran teaches us how to be better Muslims, what will happen on the day of judgment, what will happen in the afterlife and how it will be for the believers and disbelievers, how to perform wudu, the importance of prayers, and how to worship Allah and please him. It even includes scientific facts that weren’t yet known at the time, some of which include:

“And it is we who have built the universe with (Our creative) power; and verily, it is We who are steadily expanding it.” [Quran, 51:47].

Man” We did create from a quintessence (of clay); then we placed him (as a drop of) sperm in a place of rest, firmly fixed; then We made the sperm into a clot of congealed blood; then of than clot We made a (foetus) lump; then We made out of that lump bones and clothed the bones with flesh; then We developed out of it another creature. So blessed be Allah, The Best to Create” [Quran, 23:12-14).

“Do not the disbelievers see that the heavens and the earth were a closed-up mass (Ratqan), then we opened them out?” [Quran 21:31].

“Surely, following the ˹heavenly˺ Record, We decreed in the Scriptures: “My righteous servants shall inherit the land.” [Quran 21:105]

“He released the two seas,1 meeting [one another]; Between them is a barrier so neither of them transgresses.” [Quran 55:19]

“We have already sent Our messengers with clear evidences and sent down with them the Scripture and the balance that the people may maintain [their affairs] in justice. And We sent down iron, wherein is great military might and benefits for the people, and so that Allah may make evident those who support Him and His messengers unseen. Indeed, Allah is Powerful and Exalted in Might.” [Quran 57:25]

“Have you not seen how Allah makes the clouds move gently, then joins them together, then makes them into a stack, and then you see the rain come out of it?” [Quran 24:43]

The Quran was preserved and memorized over the years by many Muslims. The prophet himself didn’t know how to read or write therefore he memorized the Quran and the text was taught to other Muslims until it was collected in a Mushaf.
