Quran facts for kids

First Mushaf

The Quran was not recorded in book form when Muhammad was alive; it was preserved through oral transmission and short written notes. The prophet did not learn how to read or write, but Muslims believe that when Muhammad was alive, his cousin Ali ibn Abi Talib, among others, used to write the scriptures on anything. 

After Prophet Muhammad died, Ali ibn Abi Talib gathered the Quran and compiled it into a book.

Revelation

The Quran was revealed over a period of 23 years, 13 years in Mecca, and ten years in Madinah.

Verses and Surahs

The Quran is divided into 30 sections, totaling 114 surahs (chapters). The amount of verses in each surah varies.

First Verse

The first verse is from Surah Iqra. it was revealed for Muhammad (PBUH) by Jibrel (Alaihi As-salam):

“Read (commencing) with the Name of Allah, Who has created (everything). He created man from a hanging mass (clinging) like a leech (in the mother’s womb). Read and your Lord is Most Generous, Who taught man (reading and writing) by the pen, Who (besides that) taught man (all that) which he did not know.”

The Last verse

The last verse was from Surah Nahl:

“He has only forbidden to you dead animals, blood, the flesh of swine, and that which has been dedicated to other than Allah. But whoever is forced [by necessity], neither desiring [it] nor transgressing [its limit] – then indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.”

The Longest and Shortest Surah

Surah Baqarah is the longest, whereas Surah Kawthar is the shortest.

Stories of Prophets

There are 25 Prophets mentioned in the Holy Quran. Their stories are meant to give us life lessons and teach us lots of things in a unique way.

Facts About the Miracle of the Quran for Children

The miracles described in the Holy Quran are classified into several categories. The following are the many divisions of miracles in the Quran:

Physical and non-physical miracles

There are two kinds of miracles in the Quran. Some miracles are tangible in the sense that they may be grasped by a human being’s perceptions. The voyage of the Prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him) from Earth to Paradise, as described in Surah al-Isra, is one example of such a miracle. 

Other Quranic miracles are those that are beyond the reach of the senses. The Balaghah in the Holy Quran is an example of such a miracle. The quranic linguistics excellence is a Quranic marvel.

Miracles related to time and space

Another distinction of the Quranic miracles is linked to the potential of a miracle being limited in time and location. Some miracles, for example, are restricted to a specific time and location, whilst others are timeless. Inshiqaq al-Qamar or the coolness of fire for the Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) is an example of the former.

The Quran itself is an example of later, as it is an eternal wonder.

The Quran has certain features that distinguish it from other texts. Some of these characteristics are as follows:

The language

The excellent quality of the Arabic in the Quran is considered a Quranic miracle. Because of the excellent quality of the Quran language, Allah Almighty issued an open invitation to the Arabs, who were well-known for their linguistic abilities, to write a single verse equal to the Quran.

The subject matter of the Quran is vast and all-encompassing. 

It spans the entire existence, from origin to conclusion. It contains information about Allah, the Creator of the cosmos, as well as His characteristics. The Quran provides instruction in all aspects of human life.

The Quran did not appear all at once. 

It was revealed as part of a reformative process in which sections of the Quran would be revealed in response to the demands of the moment. Other holy writings had also been sent down at the same time.

The Quran gives instruction for all of humanity, across all ages. 

Its message is not restricted to a specific time in history, location, or set of people. Instead, the message of the Quran is universal and applicable to all people.

What Are the Scientific Facts in the Quran?

Allah (SWT) commands Muslims to examine and study the universe in order to discover some of His signs. As a result, numerous passages of the Noble Quran exhort Muslims to study nature and seek knowledge, which has been interpreted as support for scientific research.

“We will show them Our signs in the universe and in their own selves until it becomes manifest to them that this (the Quran) is the truth” 

(Surah Fussilat)

1- The Creation of the Universe

Edwin Hubble, an American astronomer, developed Hubble’s Law in 1929, which states that all entities in space move away from the Earth at rates proportionate to their distance, i.e. the greater the distance from the Earth, the faster they move. Soon later, he observed that galaxies are also moving away from one another, implying that the universe as a whole is expanding.

This set the groundwork for the Big Bang hypothesis, which claims that the cosmos came into existence about 12-15 billion years ago from a single very hot and dense point and that the universe came into existence as a result of an explosion of this point. Since then, the cosmos has expanded from this one point.

“Have those who disbelieved not considered that the heavens and the earth were a joined entity, and We separated them”

(Surah al-Anbiya)

2- The Seas Emerging

Science has found that where two distinct seas meet, there is a barrier that separates them, allowing both seas to keep their unique temperature, salinity, and density.

“He released the two seas, meeting [side by side], Between them is a barrier [so] neither of them transgresses”

(Surah ar-Rahman)

3- The Sky Protection to Earth

It is a factual theory that the sky, with all of its gasses, shields the earth and all life on it from the sun’s destructive rays. Life on Earth would come to an end if there was no outermost covering since the surface temperature Of the earth would be frozen at -270.556°C, the same as the temperature in space.

 “And We made the sky a protected ceiling, but they, from its signs, are turning away”

(Surah al-Anbiya)

4- The Movement of All Things in the Universe

Although it was only a widely held concept among astronomers in the twentieth century, it is now a well-established truth that the Sun, Moon, and all other things in the Universe are continually moving in an orbit and are not stationary.

“And it is He who created the night and the day and the sun and the moon; all [heavenly bodies] in an orbit are swimming”

(Surah al-Anbiya)

5- The Universe Expansion

According to prominent physicist Stephen Hawking in his book ‘A Brief History of Time’: 

“The discovery that the universe is expanding was one of the great intellectual revolutions of the twentieth century” 

Despite the fact that the Quran had already disclosed to us that in relation to the universe, “We are its expander” decades and decades before.

“And the heaven We constructed with strength, and indeed, We are [its] expander”

(Surah Adh-Dhariyat)

6- Water

It wasn’t until the invention of the microscope that it was realized that all living things are mainly made of water – while in the Arabian deserts, no one would have guessed that all life comes from water.

“We made every living thing from water, will they not believe?” 

(Surah Al-Anbiya)

7- Iron 

Iron, according to M. E. Walrath, is not a natural element of the earth. According to scientists, meteorites impacted the globe billions of years ago. Iron was prevalent in these meteorites, and as a result of a disaster on Earth, we now have access to iron.

 “We sent down Iron with its great inherent strength and its many benefits for humankind”

(Surah al-Hadid)
