What is supplication in Islam? | Noor Academy

In times of sadness and depression or anxiety, we tend to turn to Allah for help, to heal our hearts and souls from the darkness of the world. Supplication and dua are our keys to healing.

When we feel empty and lost the only thing that takes us out of the darkness is remembering Allah.

Allah prophet, Muhammad peace and blessing be upon him said:

Do not talk too much without remembrance of Allah. Indeed excessive talking without remembrance of Allah hardens the heart. And indeed the furthest of people from Allah is the harsh-hearted.

What is the definition of supplication in Islam?

Dua and supplication in Islam, represent the Muslim’s weapon, it’s the best way to come closer to Allah. Allah said in the Holy Quran that he will always answer our call when we call out for help.

Allah said in the Quran about supplication:

And when My servants ask you, [O Muhammad], concerning Me – indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me. So let them respond to Me [by obedience] and believe in Me that they may be [rightly] guided. [Qur’an 2:186]

Also, Allah told the prophet to tell us in another verse:

Say, [O Muhammad], “I only invoke my Lord and do not associate with Him, anyone.” [Qur’an 72:20].

Now let’s see some of the supplications that you should say daily.

What is the difference between Dua and supplication?

There is no difference between Dua and supplication; they are both the same.

What is the difference between prayer and supplication in Islam?

Duas and supplications are both the same and it’s a word describing our conversation with Allah, whenever you feel down and wants Allah to help you, you will use supplication.

While prayer is what we perform five times a day, it’s a ritual thing between Muslims and Allah.

What is the Importance of supplication in Islam?

We can see the importance of supplication in the following verse of the Holy Quran:

Say to them (O Muhammad): “My Lord would not care for you were it not for your prayer. (25:77)

From this verse, we see how Allah cares about the supplication of the believers.

Supplication is what we use to turn to Allah and ask for help, forgiveness, and to thank him. Even if we want to ask Allah to make our dream come true we will use Dua.

Supplication is what makes us closer and connects us to Allah. We are always in need of Allah that would never change.

15-    Morning and evening supplications:

What we mean by evening and morning supplication in Islam (dua), is the Azkar that you should recite daily to protect you against any evil, and here are some of them.

  •         If it’s the evening then you should say:

We have reached the evening and at this very time unto Allah belongs all sovereignty, and all praise is for Allah. None has the right to be worshiped except Allah, alone, without a partner, to Him belongs all sovereignty and praise and He is over all things omnipotent. My Lord, I ask You for the good of this night and the good of what follows it and I take refuge in You from the evil of this night and the evil of what follows it. My Lord, I take refuge in You from laziness and senility. My Lord, I take refuge in You from torment in the Fire and punishment in the grave.

In the morning you will replace the word ‘evening’ with the ‘morning’

  •

In the morning say:

O Allah, by your leave we have reached the morning and by Your leave, we have reached the evening, by Your leave we live and die and unto You is our resurrection

O Allah, by Your leave we have reached the evening and by Your leave, we have reached the morning, by Your leave we live and die and unto You is our return.

  •         If you are seeking for forgiveness then recite the following supplication:

O Allah, You are my Lord, none has the right to be worshiped except You, You created me and I am Your servant and I abide by your covenant and promise as best I can, I take refuge in You from the evil of which I have committed. I acknowledge Your favor upon me and I acknowledge my sin, so forgive me, for verily none can forgive sin except You.

‘O Allah, I take refuge in You from anxiety and sorrow, weakness and laziness, miserliness and cowardice, the burden of debts and from being overpowered by men.’
