What are the Types of Izhar?
There are three types of izhar in tajweed. Learning Tajweed rules is essential to read the holy Quran correctly without any mistakes. One of the most important rules is Izhar, and here are its different types:
- Izhar shafawi: this type of Izhar only comes with the Meem Sakinah. And it applies to any letter, not just the Izhar letters. Any letter after Meem Sakinah should be shown except the two letters meem and baa.
- Izhar halqi: this type is applied when any of the izhar letters hamz, haa, ain, ghin, haa and khaa comes after noon Sakinah or tanween.
There are three different pronunciations of this type of Izhar depending on which part of the throat is used when pronouncing the letter. Basically, they are divided into the upper throat, lower throat, and middle throat.
Letters of the upper throat area are: haa and hamz.
The letters of the middle throat area are: Ain and Ha.
Letters of the lower throat area are: Ghain and Khaf.
- Izhar mutlak: this type of Izhar comes when the Noon is followed with any of the two letters Waw and Yaa. In this case, the noon should be pronounced clearly.
Here are some examples of Izhar from the holy Quran:
